A little over a year into his administration, President Javier Milei has decided to separate from numerous figures who accompanied him during the electoral campaign that culminated in his victory in the runoff against Peronist Sergio Massa on November 19, 2023. The most recent expulsion was that of Buenos Aires legislator Ramiro Marra, co-founder of La Libertad Avanza (LLA). Although it surprised no one, Marra was removed for failing to adhere to Milei's principles by voting for the budget of the government chief, Jorge Macri.
Carolina Piparo, who was the candidate for the Governorship of Buenos Aires during Milei's campaign, maintained discipline and aligned with the central power despite criticism from libertarian supporters. Likewise, finance expert Diana Mondino was also separated from the Executive, along with Deputy Oscar Zago.
The power of other figures like Victoria Villarruel, Carlos Kikuchi, and Nicolás Posse has been diminished, causing discord and tensions among party members. The list of those expelled includes Carlos Maslatón, Emilio Ocampo, Carlos Rodríguez, Iñaki Gutiérrez, Eugenio Rolón, Lourdes Arrieta, Marcela Pagano, and Oscar Zago.
Among the new names that have gained prominence are Gabriel Bornoroni, a legislator from Córdoba backed by Karina Milei, and Santiago Caputo, a tax advisor. Accusations of improvised setups and alleged sale of candidacies have generated tensions and debates within the libertarian party.
